At the end of the day a plane journey - no matter what the class of travel may be - is just that: a means of getting from point A to point B in safety and quicker than by ship, train or car. If you want well-cooked and imaginatively served food go to a good restaurant, either before or after your flights - not during!
I think the thread has generated an interesting generic conversation on the subject, which is the general idea behind BBs such as flyer talk, surely?
While your point on food is very correct, almost a truism, the chellenge of providing tasty, edible, fresh, imaginative and varied onboard catering is an interesting and challenge for the industry. It can generate revenue through sale of such food in Y or by enhancing premium cabin customer experience of the soft product. The introduction of long and ultra long haul flights has added a new dimension to this challenge. And airlines globally are responding in quite interesting ways.
