I've assessed the loss of volume if traveling with a non-cubic cuboid. The most standard case is typically 22x14x9 inches. If that size is increased proportionally to 62 inches, the dimensions are 30.3 x 19.3 x 12.4 (a convenient shape that maxes out the linear dimensional limit). That hypothetical case gives up 17% of the volume just by its shape.
