I don't doubt what you're saying henkybaby, but I've just chacked the UK BA Website and found a section headed: "How many Avios do I need?" - so there seems to be some inconsistency.
Look at your statement on the BAEC homepage. It clearly talks about Avios points. There is indeed inconsistency galore. Clearly the communication and marketing department have not had the proper Avios training.
The way BA uses it Avios is both the plural and the singular.
