Aside from the whole issue of pricing etc., does any one find this very interesting that Southwest - the juggernaut of low fares and winning strategy bets - has (more or less) cried "uncle" at PHL. Did the delays kill them or decide that battling a stronger US at PHL was not worth the headaches?
Well as a leisure traveler I took WN several times in 06, 07, and 08. Then suddenly they were a good 20-40% more expensive than US and they canceled a lot of flights such as the PHL-LAX. WN was not competitive on pricing, though I know a lot of people that continued flying them regardless. Their flights were almost always delayed and never cheap...it could not have helped the situation at all. Now I'll even pay a small premium to fly US, as the new WN RR program stinks.
