Manchester:
- large, impersonal conference center hotel, designed to house massive amounts of people and meetings.
- in downtown SD, walkable to Gaslamp district
- almost all rooms are exactly the same size
- minimal Diamond recognition - you'll get a room on a higher floor
- outrageous parking charges
- Regency Club for cont. breakfast, snacks, and appetizers
Mission Bay:
- resort-style hotel, designed for relaxation including multiple pools
- away from downtown (you'll need to drive if you want to go anywhere) but close to Sea World
- slightly less outrageous parking charges
- varied room sizes and configurations include waterfront suites
- great Diamond recognition including possible suite upgrades
- very friendly staff trained to make you feel comfortable and at home
- Red Marlin restaurant consistently receives rave reviews, it's an excellent restaurant in its own right
Unless you need to stay in the heart of downtown San Diego, Mission Bay is the hands-down winner. It's one of my favorite Hyatt hotels anywhere.
Thanks for the breakdown! I was going to choose Mission Bay over Manchester as well and your post helped confirm the decision even further. ^
