I am new to reward/point systems and have found this site to be a great resource! Lot's of useful info.

I have about 30,000 AMEX points and am considering converting some to Avios points (AMEX promo 1MR -> 1.3 Avios) to book a flight in March 2012.

I searched on the British Airways website for the flight I wanted, and saw SFO to ELP for 24,000 Avios. The flights would be through American Airlines and American Eagle on behalf of American Airlines.

Seems fine, but I have some questions/concerns that hopefully you guys can help me out with.

If I book this, but need to make cancel the booking, will I get a refund on the Avios?

If I need to make changes on the booking, are there any additional fees to consider?

Should changes be made through British Airways or American Airlines?
