I don't know the island that well but we stayed at the Sheraton on Langkawi for 5 nights and it was too far from anything for us. The Sheraton room was beautiful, the staff was fantastic but the beach was tiny (more like a patch of sand on a bay) and it about $15 each way to take a cab to get to areas with a good selection of restaurants. I would have preferred to stay closer to more attractions/action.
