The fares may be more expensive during peak travel times ie Friday or Sunday when more leisure travelers are flying and the flights are more likely to be full. It's simple supply and demand and you really can't blame Alaska or Southwest for charging more if they know they will sell the ticket for that price. This has happened on my OAK-PDX flights for Oregon home games. If you want a cheaper fare, you may have to adjust your travel dates/times.
