Christmas crackers

It is probably timely to remind FTers that Christmas crackers can be carried but only as checked-in luggage, and only if they are from a commercial supplier.

Christmas crackers sometimes contain restricted items such as scissors or other sharp items, so to avoid security issues, please place them in your checked baggage only. Please note:
  • Crackers are not permitted on any flights out of London City airport
  • Maximum two boxes per passenger
  • The crackers must be commercially manufactured
  • The crackers must be in the manufacturer's original packaging
  • The crackers are for personal use only
  • Homemade crackers are not permitted
Some airports may have further restrictions on crackers. Please check with the airport before you travel.
I have a question for BA insiders (maybe the ever helpful sunrisegirl): Ms FW is flying LGW-BOD in CE and therefore entitled to 2 x 23kg bags. She has bought crackers (from M&S, so commercially manufactured) but is worried that they might not fit in her suitcase. Can she check them in separately (as the second "bag")? Should she wrap them?
