The prevention of double dipping doesnt seem to fit with my thinking... firstly because (like you point out), your FF no. doesnt always appear on the boarding pass. Second, because I assume that one *A partner will check with other partners before issuing credit if they suspect you've been credited the miles already (or perhaps its even standard procedure for all cases?).
