Don't forget to change your default subscription option in
your options to "No email notification."
Then, once email notifications start working again, you shouldn't get a lot of them unless older threads are bumped. For older, long-running threads with continuous activity, you can just go to that thread's subscription (Thread Tools dropdown near the top of the screen > Subscribe to this Thread > change notification type to "No email notification").
