I've found that miles/points earned through a specific airline or hotel program
generally seem to have the most redemption value with the program in which they were earned so I'm with you on this. SPG to airline conversions are amongst the best regular transfers out there, but I'd still rather use Starpoints for hotel properties than airline miles or, at least, for a Nights and Flights redemption.
