When traveling with kids and family, I find the Hyatt Places/Summerfield Suites a better fit because of the informal atmosphere, more playspace and furniture in the room, and the family-friendly breakfast buffet......plus needing a lot fewer points!
Don't have any experience with SoCal Hyatts (other than Long Beach HR, which is a dull convention hotel).....but perhaps the SummerfieldSuites in ElSegundo-LAX puts family/kids near wonderful Manhattan Beach, and you near I-405 for business? There's also one in Anaheim -- not sure how close to Disney it is.....
How old are the kids on the trip? Until kids themselves become status-concious, it seems that the perks and pleasures of a fine hotel are negatives---yes, we can go to the Club room for a free Coke anytime, but why do we have to be quiet in there and can't change the TV channel to what we want? Why do we have to wait so long for the elevator, and I left my key in the room so can't get the elevator to stop on my floor......why can't we just get in our car?...Why do we have to wait for someone to drive the car to us? etc etc.....smile!
