I booked the ticket through agent, i am not able select the seats for my travel to India (4 legs up and down). They ask me to pay $38 per leg. Is there any other way to choose seats?

I also purchased tickets for my wife and son, but they are going earlier and we all coming back together. Her ticket was purchased directly on ba.com, and she is able to select seats. I want to make sure we will have seats together while coming back. i doubt i have access to internet 24 hours prior to the travel.
