Sure, it may cost the airline in the event of missed connections or missed luggage. But if they offer "realistic" (2+ hour) connections, many passengers will just not book that airline and instead prefer the other airline that has a better connection or a nonstop flight. Then our airline just lost 100% of the revenue.
