SQ Y service compares favourably with QF J service - and a bonus with SQ is that you know what the service will be like, and you can count on a pleasant experience. With Qantas in either class it's hit and miss, ranging from acceptable to woeful.
I know that there are people here who believes that Qantas walks on water, but they are deluding themselves.
If you are talking purely the quality of service provided by staff, it makes sense, but on an overall comparison, regardless of how good the crew are, I would rather fly in a business class seat on Qantas vs an economy seat on SQ
