I do think that sometimes the service can be too intrusive -- like others here, I don't need someone to unpack my clothes, escort me to my room, or handle every little thing. Similarly, in a retail store, just because I look closely at an item doesn't mean that I need the salesperson to pick it up and start explaining it to me.

One of the definitions of luxury service, and hardest parts about delivering it, is finding that right balance. I really appreciate if I am in an upscale restaurant or bar by myself and the wait staff understands whether I want to be catered to or I want to left alone.
