I'm not a Plat holder , but I think everyone on this thread would agree that AMEX shouldn't offer any service at a loss
The possible Plat advantage was similar to a boutique version of a Warehouse Club , in that AMEX can go to niche vendors and say , we've got this elite group of high-spend customers, and you should cut them a break in order to become acquainted to and instill loyalty in your high-end goods and services. AMEX makes sure the Plat holders have skin the game via a high annual fee and MR loyalty bonus games.
It may be the case that the firms that offer goods and services are just not so interested in playing along anymore, that there are different ways of identifying and engaging with the traditional Plat demographic, and they don't need AMEX to play middleman aggregator in the same way
Therefore, there is less and less that AMEX can offer Plat customers that is perceived to be of high value to the Plats while still profitable to AMEX
I'm sure that anyone that makes use of services like AMEX Plat concierge to get tickets or reservations that are otherwise difficult and time consuming is not going to complain about new customers being given a bunch of MR points (and I just noticed the bulk of this thread is 11 yrs old)
