If they hold it while you go, I think that's going a bit too far.
Other than that awkward thought, I have yet to experience anything approaching "too much" service, although I'm sure it's possible, in theory. I'd need to start staying in much,
much better hotels than the ICs and Park Hyatts that I frequent.
