One tip that I read is to buy it from your local bank - they generally give you the exchange rate plus a one time shipping fee or something which is cheaper than at the airport. The most valuable piece I read was to buy more than enough XPF - think all of your activities and spending money and then some - and then you can pay the part of your hotel bill with your remaining XPF at the end of your stay, and use the credit card for the rest. That way you won't come home with any money!
