If you are in business, you have to do what you have to do to get the job done.
Sometimes you work over a holiday or holidays to file some bizarre request from the government. Sometimes you miss your kids' games or recitals to get your customers out of a jam. Sometimes you work for two or three days straight to achieve a necessary objective. Sometimes you are in another country when there is a rattlesnake in the garage, or the electrical fuses blow, or the neighbor's horse gets loose in your yard, and your wife is not happy with your absence.
If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, etc. etc.
Agreed that calling in sick is a bad idea, but perhaps management should offer some incentives to work on the holidays and solicit volunteers or at least make it less painful if involuntary. Of course since I don't know the AA contracts, maybe they already do this.
