Flight originating in the EU --> EU regulation is applying (not on the way back!!!)
QF has to put you on the next flight - no matter what airline that is.
You could book it yourself and reclaim the fare!
You will get that in any case, whether it is the airlines fault or not - so even when there are weather disruptions.
The 600 Euro compensation is only when it is the airlines fault (so technical or operational reason). You will get that on top.
BTW: QF is very good in respecting the regulations. This is why lawyers do not like them. There are other airlines, (LH, DE, FR,...) that you always have to sue when you want to get the compensation that you are entitled to have.
