The only seats now available are middle seats, so they're holding two in adjacent rows. I understand that "Preferred Seats are available for purchase as early as 24 hours prior to departure with prices beginning at $4 USD per flight." Chances are there are still two unreserved seats together somewhere in the Y cabin.

They don't want to pay for Preferred Seats. At what point do those seats become available to such ordinary pax? Never? If so, does the reshuffling to grab empties happen before or after takeoff? Thanks.
It looks like there's just one nonstop, are they on #269?

The open preferred seats include all of exit row 14. Besides that, there aren't two open seats together, preferred or not, though aisle & window in row 16 & 17, both sides, are open, and if they could get those, the middle pax would probably switch. And there are always seats held for airport assignment only, typically the front two rows of coach. Still, the seat map is pretty full, and they may find the gate agent reluctant to deal with seat change requests. Best bet may be a kiosk.
