Depending on the port stops, it may also be easier to just wait until your first port stop and get it (assuming you can bring it on the ship since you said it was allowed).
Thanks cordelli. I thought of this board as I've seen it mentioned as great resource on a cruise board I read. Two fast replies certainly show that this is a active and valuable place to be. Looking forward to reading through the tips and techniques of improving flying experience (and savings!)

I've 'heard' some airlines get upset if bottles in luggage are not in special transport containers. Not sure if Alaska is one of them or they care (as long as it does not leak)

First port stop does make sense. Perhaps I am over thinking all this and making it too complicated.
