One would hope that the airlines that limit carry on baggage to 7kg or 10kg don't have those exit doors that you have to pick up and throw, since they supposedly weigh 50 pounds or so.
Actually, that is another thing not always mentioned in terms of informing exit row passengers how much those doors weigh.
In a training "emergency" evacuation I had no problem lifting the 50 lb door, nor would I have difficulty doing so in a real emergency. The door simply doesn't have to be lifted over your head.
I could throw your 50 lb bag our the door also. But I can't consistently swing my 23 lb 19" bag into the overhead. Checking the bag one time the AA ticket agent informed me it was small enough for carry on and said surely someone would help me put it in the overhead. She was shocked when I told her how many feel like the OP.

But this was at HNL where people tend to be a little laid back and friendlier than in many places.
