Apparently, airline folk have to say it on their own web pages because airlines make no mention of it on their carry-on baggage policy pages:

Why don't airlines mention it there? Not mentioning it may create the expectation among passengers that the flight attendants will help them lift their carry-on baggage into the overhead bin, requiring the flight attendants to choose between an injury risk problem and a customer service problem.
It would be impossible to enforce.

The airlines I use have a 7Kg limit for carry-on baggage and I comply with that.

At the start of my travels, I could easily lift my hand baggage, but somewhere along the way I injured my knee. For my homeward journey, walking with 2 crutches, I needed help.

Wouldn't it be easier for all airlines to enforce a 7Kg limit? Hand baggage could be weighed at check-in (as some airlines do already). That would stop people from carrying on the kitchen sink, as some do now, and should make plane loading calculation more accurate.
