I'd be curious if anyone has thoughts on a preference for your home airline? As an AA EXP, flying VS with no status would not be good if there was a problem. As for AA vs AY, can a Oneworld elite expect the same treatment on either airline?
I have no personal experience but have understood that AY is fairly good in recognizing OW status... just hearsay though. Ofcourse it is always better to be an "own" frequent flier.
One thing to note though: If you fly with AY and there is a problem, you are protected by EU 261/2004 in case of delays/cancellations etc. both ways, whereas with AA it only applies on the way back. Ofcourse, same applies to VS as well though.
Also, if we are talking wintertime, I'd say LHR is far more likely to suffer from weather related delays or even closedowns than Helsinki.
