I use combination locks when I am afraid of theft. The advantage is, there is no key that could be stolen or lost This also lets you e.g. cuff the bag to the table at a restaurant, so that you would not have to worry about thieves.

Maybe you should consider getting a carryon with a built-in combination lock, if this is important to you.
