You must be well known to MPC, my uncle who got charged 3X the fees is also DM. I open this thread merely to inform fellow flyers based on my experience.

I too think that standby on earlier flights will benefit Cathay in freeing up loads on later flights so they shouldn't charge. I was wrong. I think similarly on Cathay's taxes, fees and fuel surcharges on tickets. Why are they so much higher (highest in the industry) than other airlines? Continental only adds on about $72 to the base price of the ticket for the same direct EWR-HKG flight.
