I asked this in another thread but I didn't get a clear answer.

If I use the Avios calculator some short routes like KBP-BUD price at 4500 miles, but when you go to do a dummy booking it prices at 17500 because it's BA metal via LHR instead of the Malev direct flight. Is there any way to force a partner search online (I remember this was available in the past?) or do I just need to call?
