One reason amongst many: history is relevant to our present, mainly in the sense that knowing / understanding the
how and
why certain events happened in the past (at least on a basic level) may help an individual in getting a better picture of the current world affairs.
I could write a book about this subject but, regrettably, I've got a too stressful job and I'm not due to retire until [at least] 2045
