If I were the OP, I'd do a same-day ALB to BOS for $250ish - gets me four segments right there. In pricing one out, I can do it all on December 9th - leaving ALB at 9:00 am and back at 4:30 pm.

Makes no sense for a 1K out of a non-hub to pay for FC - you'll get the upgrade anyways.

Or even go the Friday after Thanksgiving. ALB-BOS - two segments for $219 all in. Leave at 7:30, arrive back at 2:35. (Not sure what US Airways standby policies are for earlier flights).
