Distance is set between cities, it would be a nightmare to try and calcite actual miles, with weather detours, etc. Some trips you might fly farther than the set amount, but unless something has changed, you will get the pre-determined distance.
Heck, consider the taxi distance from gate to runway or the circling waiting to land.
