Swag, I have a double ski bag (looks pretty huge) so it still will count as one non-oversized item together with a bag containing 2 pairs of boots?? (boots are heavy). And another thing, what are the chances they will be undamaged? will the airline take care not to put them on the bottom of the luggage pile?

Technically, it looks like it's supposed to be a single pair of skis, but I know I've seen others with double bags and doubt they're all being charged. Double-boots may be more problematic, since that bag would be pretty big.
I've checked skis many times in a standard soft bag and never had a problem with damage. I also check my boots in a standard boot bag, so far so good, but many people are afraid of damage to the buckles and prefer to carry-on.
