CW rear of cabin [food service]

Hello all,

Just about to enjoy (hopefully) my flight home from SFO to LHR with Mrs BF in J. Have a general query that I would love to hear your opinions on, primarily so I can provide Mrs BF with some info from people in the know.

On our outbound flight (LHR-DFW) we were on the UD (64 A/B) and when the meal orders were taken, Mrs BF was told that there was no chicken left on the UD and as she does not eat red meat, was told by the member of the crew that he would go and check downstairs. In the end they did have one available and everyone was happy.

When afternoon tea came around, by the time they reached us, there were none of the advertised sandwiches available (just the salad) and we were instead offered items from the Club Kitchen, which were more than satisfactory. We were told that the catering team had provided more salads than sandwiches for this particular flight.

I understand that it is impractical for BA to carry one of everything to ensure that passengers can have their first choice. I also understand that their planners may over/under estimate the ratios for certain items as it is not an exact science. My question is this:

If you are seated towards the rear of a CW (or any other) cabin, does the likelihood of you receiving your first choice reduce, and if so, should we take this into account when making our seat choices? (Also, if the answer is yes, should this be factored in to the guides available on FT?)

The benefit and wisdom of your varied experience would be most appreciated!

Thanks all!

Big Fish

PS - First TR to follow our return, so I hope you all enjoy!
