Last week upon check-out, 1.5% credit card surchage was imposed on my bill. Very kind and apologetic front desk lady said there was nothing she could do, hotel policy. Or I could pay cash (I would absolutely have if I had $1800 AUD on me.)

Has anyone encountered this at any other Marriott? A surchage by using credit card to pay the bill?

To Trojanhorse: You are absolutely right. There was no drawer in the room. I had to empty out the kettle/coffee/tea/condiments drawer for storage.
