I don't understand AC pricing

I've been looking to book YYZ-HNL for March break, and here is what I get:

AC: YYZ-YVR-HNL 3/9/12; AC 63/47 (15hrs, 10 min)
HNL-YVR-YYZ 3/17/11; AC 48/1132 (12hrs 35min)
Price: $1,920.70 CAD

UA: YYZ-SFO-HNL 3/9/12; UA 867/421 (12hrs 20 min)
HNL-LAX-YYZ 3/17/12; UA 534/8328 (15 hrs)
Price: $1269.92 CAD

A fare difference of $1301.56 CAD for two people! Same travel times, same status miles...why fly AC?

I can only conclude that AC is content to reel in the business travellers who aren't paying their own fare, otherwise they would have to be more competitive.
