I have seen award space in J on BA58/59, sometimes when there is no award space on the same day on BA54/55/56/57 to/from JNB. IME, J availability on all of these flights tends to be rarer than F availability, so you may see the same thing in F.

But CPT is generally difficult and it's more often the case that there is award space to JNB when there is none to CPT; and it's usually far from being the end of the world if you have to connect through JNB.

So I think it's worth looking, but also keeping your options open.
