One could also argue that AA should be glad they have a large and experienced pilot base. After all, Emirates (along with other prestigious international carriers) will need a thousand or more qualified pilots for their new 777 order. My understanding is they have pretty stellar benefits packages and are only too happy to hire away foreign-trained pilots. AA is competing for talent on a world stage, not just a domestic one, so it's no surprise that the talent is demanding commensurate pay.
