777-200 (A Market, also known as G-ZZZx fleet)

The dogs of the fleet. The original 777 order delivered in 1995 they currently have a poor reputation. These planes can easily be recognised on seating maps as they have 17 First seats and only 24 in World Traveller Plus making then easily identifiable via a seat map. They are typically found plying the shorter long haul routes to the Gulf and the US East Coast.

IFE is old GMIS tape loop system. This is due to be replaced with the new Thales system (a la 777-300) and new first, WT+ and WT will also be fitted.

777-200ER

There are 4 versions of this plane

1. A 4 class plane, which has 14F seats and 6 rows of club from 10-15, the original flying dorm isfound at both Heathrow and Gatwick.

2. A 3 class plane with the front cabin running from rows 1-4 (not full rows), plus 11-12 after Door 2 with a total of 40J seats. These operate solely from Gatwick.

For the plane spotters these have registrations in the range G-VIIx, GE engines and date from the late 90’s. They are fitted with tiny video screens and a tape loop system. They are due to be fitted with new WT, WT+ and Thales AVOD.

3. 12 NF seats - the 13th seat has been lost to the crew rest area Fitted with Rolls Royce engines these have the longest range and typically operate to SYD, SIN, HKG, PVG, MRU and other proper long haul routes from Heathrow only.

4. 3 class plane with the front cabin running from rows 1-5, plus aft of door 2 giving a total of 48J seats. Confusingly they operate from both LHR and LGW so do check carefully when booked ex Gatwick.

These G-YMMx planes are fitted with Rolls Royce Engines and a limited AVOD system. There are no plans to equip these with the new “down the back” cabins or updated AVOD

777-300 (G-STBx range)

Aka the Plastic 747 killer and the newest 777 that BA flies. 4 in service with another 2 to join and 3 further options that have been exercised, these planes have an extended Club cabin with one more row (rows 10-16) and possess NF, New WT, WT and the Thales AVOD IFE. They are divisive planes – some like them, most loathe them though many feel they are better down the back, the worst in Club and fine in First.

All 777 are fitted with the latest iteration of the Club World flat bed.
Is there any CW seat that makes a difference on the 777-300? Also are the screens a little bigger than normal given it is a newly installed system?
