Your MIL's experience is the same as mine some years ago. chaotic arrival, forgot the duty free bag on board with a few nice bottles, was told the cleaners just dispose of/destroy anything remaining on board after passengers have left. Everyone's pick whether to believe that happens in 100% of cases or not...
