I find your question to be very confusing. Are you suggesting that if someone is flying >200K miles a year for leisure purposes they should deliberately avoid earning top status on an airline? Maybe mix it up and spread those miles between 10 airlines so they don't earn any status at all?

Yes, I realize you're trolling, but the question makes no sense. If I were flying >200K a year -- for business or for pleasure -- I'd split it between two airlines, one in the Star Alliance and one in the OneWorld alliance. That pretty much ensures I'd get the top-tiers perks & have access to award tickets where ever in the world I'd choose to fly.
