TPA is my home airport. Since Airtran move, I have not noticed much difference (Spirit moved away from the terminal, Airtran moved in). Correct assumptions mentioned earlier that 5 mins will get you anywhere in the gate area. The gates are divided (north/south by a Starbucks, a Gift Shop, and the passenger screening area). I believe that the split is at gate 35. 35 and lower is closer to Chili's and 36 and higher is closer to the sports bar and Quiznos. As mentioned on one end is Chili's and Chilis 2 (take out hot or cold), but on the other end of the gates there is a Quiznos. If I eat in the terminal, I opt for the Chilis, but usually run to Quiznos for a carry on sub to eat in flight (also can depend on which gate I am departing out of). You will also find several workstations in the terminal area that are great for a bit of privacy. Each has 2 outlets and a 3' or so wide desk space separated by divider. There are about 10 on each side (20 in each gate section). It is nice to be able to charge you phone and send a few quick emails just before departure.
