I understand what you are saying, but trace detection is capable of detecting traces of chemicals. Therefore, anyone carrying significant quantities of these should alarm with a swab of their hands only.

The reason for the rub down of the whole body and hands-in-pants is to intimidate and punish opt-outs. Otherwise, why are there no hand-in-pants for WTMD alarms, random ETD use or children?
