It is my guess that the waistband and collar check are integral to the swab the gloves for explosives test. If they can not do them, the ETD is not conclusive. The frisk has become less important than getting a good sample for the ETD. Just my opinion. Any effort to defeat the ETD of the gloves check will meet objections.
I do not understand the logic of the waistband check, except to intimidate. If it were about thicker fabric, my socks are usually thicker than the stretch pants I wear to fly. However, there are no sock checks, are there?
