2012 Nissan Altima 2.5S

I recently had a 3 day rental of one with just under 800 miles. I picked up in FLL and it was listed as a full size, i think it should be classified as a standard.

Anyways, the 2.5S model comes with a 175HP 2.5 liter 4cyl mated to a CVT trans and is rated at 23/32. You either like or hate the CVT. Besides a manual trans, the CVT is my choice for automatics, i think its cool and its so smooth. Overall for my 3 days and just over 200 miles, i averaged 29.7mpg, which i felt was reasonable for the size of vehicle and i did 70% highway/30% city. I felt the engine to be powerful enough, but it was quite loud under hard acceleration. Driving normally or on the highway, it was quiet and smooth. The 2.5S comes with power windows, locks, mirrors, am/fm/cd with aux input and Nissan's intelligent keyless entry/start. I really enjoy the intelligent key and it works well on the altima. There is a key slot/charger to the left lower side of the dash under the traction control/trunk popper button. Also, to the right of the license plate, under the chrome strip on the trunk is a button you can push to unlock and open the trunk. The steering wheel tilts and teloscopes which is nice. On the left side of the dash, partly hidden behind the steering wheel are two buttons to select and scroll for different display messages on the gauge cluster such as instant mpg, avereage mpg, outisde temp etc. I felt the seats to be comfortable. The bottom cushion was rather flat, but the backrest was nicely contoured. Another gripe was the manual seat controls. When you raise the seat, it tilts forward, back when you go down. I think a power seat would greatly help comfort or changing the seat adjustment so the height did not change the angle of the seat. The dash and interior overall was rather boring with black cheap plastic, but not pre 2011 Dodge/Chrysler bad. The rear seat room was acceptable and the rear center armrest was a nice feature. I felt the trunk to be large and it easily fit 1 large suitcase and 3 rollerboards. The steering to be light and the car seemed to wander while on the highway. There was also alot of roadnoise while on the highway and the speakers would distort when turned up. I had no problems with reception and the aux input for my iphone was easy to use. Overall, the altima is a decent car and i would choose it over an impala, malibu or fusion.
