That's not exactly correct. The Downeaster is currently the only train testing the onboard collection of eTickets. But the Auto Train has been accepting eTickets for about 8 months now. However, they collect the tickets in the station, not on the train. So they only tested the software for eTicketing, not the portable collection equipment that the conductors on other trains will have to carry with them.
The Downeaster represents the first onboard collection of eTickets, but not the only place where one can use an eTicket.
