Another data point... I was traveling from AUS-DFW-ATL on 11/04 with a Baby Jogger City Mini and was told by the agent it would have to be checked to my final destination. The reason given was that it was a jogging stroller.

It actually isn't (despite the brand name) a jogging stroller. It meets AA's requirements of fully collapsing and under 20 lbs. It's just under 17 lbs. I explained all this, but she wouldn't budge and stuck a checked to ATL tag on it.

I pled my case to the flight attendants when we got on board, and they agreed that it was "legal" and were able to get it gate checked for us.

I think the gate agent was scared off by the fact that the City Mini has a jogging stroller look to it, even though it is smaller, lighter, with smaller wheels, etc. It folds as compactly as my Snap-n-Go did, however she didn't get a chance to see it folded, as we approached her with it still in use. The FAs, however, did see it collapsed.

So a tip to others with this form factor of stroller: When gate checking, have it collapsed when requesting the tag. I'm convinced that the GA had no idea it could collapse as small as it does and thus thought it was non-compliant.

We handed out SOSes to the FAs who graciously helped to plead our case. ^
