They just wouldn't grasp that he felt the acft was unsafe. Not really pertinent to this thread,but just wanted to say that it's no surprise if the crew sometimes don't put in a personal appearance after a display like that one..
On my flight back from BOS the captain was very good and explained that even though the 747 was capable of flying back to the UK on three engines, he wanted to go back to BOS for our safety. I then witnessed people expressing disgust that we weren't going to go on to LHR, and some of them were just doing it because they were trying to seem important. There was at least two people who had to be back in the UK 'next day' for business (meetings) and said something along the lines of "if we can fly on three engines we should do so" to the cabin crew. These people were therefore 'amazed' to find out that the next day was a Sunday, and one claimed he meant the day after, which it was then pointed out was the Bank Holiday Monday.
