I read somewhere that they only stop in Rio Gallegos once a month -- which seems pretty strange, of course. And apparently the fare from Rio Gallegos to Mt. Pleasant is very cheap, like only a couple hundred USA dollars roundtrip.

I also read that you get off in Rio Gallegos, make sure you find somebody to stamp your passport. Customs supposedly doesn't meet the flight because it's "domestic"! And then you try to leave the country and you have no passport stamp!

I'd might prefer to fly through Rio Gallegos with BA miles because I think it would be easier to get a Buenos Aires stopover that way. I'd rather stop over in Buenos Aires than in Santiago. In the past, though, I've found it hard to book LAN Argentina in advance on a frequent flyer redemption because they don't load the seats. LAN Chile is much better at getting their schedule loaded.
